Amazon has expanded Alexa for Shopping with two practical features that matter to retailers and security teams: a discovery alert called “Update Me When” that monitors Amazon and the wider web for new releases, and a message-verification tool that helps users check whether an email, text or call really came from Amazon. Both features are available now to U.S. shoppers, according to Amazon blog posts reported by Digital Commerce 360.

What the features do

Update Me When lets customers tell Alexa to watch for specific items, books, TV seasons or product types and notify them when a match appears. Unlike price alerts, this feature scans Amazon’s catalog and the broader web for product announcements and new releases—so brands that publish clear, consistent launch data are more likely to be surfaced by voice agents.

The message-verification tool is designed to fight impersonation fraud. Customers provide Alexa details about a suspicious email, text or call—who it came from, when it arrived and what it said—and Alexa compares those signals (sender, content, timing and formatting) against Amazon’s internal records of communications. Within seconds the assistant gives one of three answers: the communication came from Amazon, it did not appear to come from Amazon, or it could not be verified. Amazon says it only labels a message authentic when it is “completely certain.” Every submission is routed to the company’s customer protection and enforcement teams to help detect emerging fraud patterns.
